Royal Mail (“we” and “us”) takes your privacy very seriously. This Privacy Policy sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed by us. By accessing and using this website, you accept and agree to this Privacy Policy without any limitation or qualification.
The personal data we hold and what we use it for
The personal data we hold about you is only used in connection with Matter boxes. We ask for your email address so we can contact you to let you know when to expect the next box and any other news concerning the availability of Matter boxes. We won’t use your details for direct marketing purposes without your permission nor will we sell it or rent it to anyone, not even to the companies featured in the Matter box.
It’s optional to give us a phone number. If you do, we take it you’re happy for us to contact you to verify the data held on our database so that we can continue to improve the quality and relevance of our publications.
We ask questions so we can better understand our subscribers, but you don’t have to answer them in order to get a Matter box. Only aggregated (anonymous) information is shared with third-party advertisers (e.g. “45% of Matter subscribers like cars”). From time to time, we might add other questions in order to create better, more relevant boxes in the future.
We may also collect information from what you do on the website which we may use to personalise the website so that it better meets your needs.
Disclosure of personal data
We may use other companies to mail the boxes or host or manage websites on our behalf. We will temporarily provide these companies with only the personal information they need to provide these services. We require these companies to protect this personal data to the same standard we do and to not use the information for any other purpose.
When we use these companies to provide us with services, it may be necessary for us to transmit your personal data to outside the European Economic Area (EEA) where privacy laws may not provide protection to the same level as in England, but if so, we ensure that the processing is carried out to standards equivalent to our own. By using this website you agree to this transfer.
How long your personal data is held
How long we keep your information collected through the website depends on the context in which you provided it.
In particular:
• we will keep your information that’s necessary for us to provide you with requested Matter boxes for as long as it takes us to provide that service;
• we will keep records of any services requested via the website for up to six years. This is so that we can respond to any complaints or disputes that arise in that period; and
• we will keep other information about you if it is necessary for us to do so to comply with the law.
Maintaining the information we hold for you
You can see the information you have provided to us by accessing the website and entering your email address and password. You can also use this page to change or delete this information. You can unsubscribe to receiving Matter boxes at any time via the links marked “unsubscribe” on the website. This will not delete information held about you on other Royal Mail databases that was not provided through this website, or on third party databases. Please note, we can only delete information about you that we don’t need to hold for legal reasons.
Keeping you information secure
We know that your privacy is very important to you and that you take the security of your information seriously.
